A controversy has rocked medical fraternity over the mystery surrounding, what most of the people call as, Morgellons disease. As per reports, a team from Mayo Clinic has examined the samples of infestation, over a period of seven years ending in 2007, produced by 108 patients, but to shock of the helpless patients, the doctors are of the view that this is mere their imagination and further, they claimed that the produced skin infections are either regular skin condition or stemmed from scratching skin hard.
This is by far the first study which has claimed that the so called epidemic of creepy-crawlies is mere stemmed from absurd imagination of minds of people, suffering from a psychological disorder, termed as “delusional parasitosis” in dermatological literature.
Apparently, the patients are of the view that their incessant genuine pleas are being disregarded by the medical community and are appealing for further probe to nail down the actual cause behind Morgellons disease.
Bending to the constant pressure of Morgellons Research Foundation, another study was kick started by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention and Kaiser Permanente of Northern California, from January 2008 for three long years. Following thorough examination of the samples, CDC Spokeswoman, Lola Russell claimed, “We recognize it has taken time, and people and their families are suffering, but at same time, it’s important to release these findings appropriately and to ensure their scientific integrity”.
